Miley Cyrus got a lot of flack for dancing with a pole atop the ice cream truck during her Teen Choice Awards routine. But perhaps, just perhaps, she was trying to get her own heart rate pumping, and not those of her naysayers.
Pole dancing has long been a cardio favorite–and not just among ladies working the late night club scene.
Actress Sheila Kelly developed S Factor, a class exclusively for women, that hones in on the S-shape that is a woman’s body by combining Pilates, yoga, ballet and drum roll….pole dancing.
Kelly was inspired to share the rigorous cardio combination with students after she trained for a role as an exotic dancer for the film Dancing at the Blue Iguana. While the routine helped Kelly shed “baby weight,” get lean and toned, she embraced the moves because of their empowering nature.
For those looking to master the craft, there’s the eight-week series which takes you from stretching to sculpting during the one to two-hour weekly sessions. Introductory private and single classes ($40) are available too.
Because just demonstrating your sweeping moves to your friends won’t do the experience justice, consider booking a private party. You know, so you’ll feel comfortable enough to really let your hair down.
