Sweet Splenda’s Ms. Popularity reign may be in jeopardy.
Truvia and PureVia, the newest packets on the coffee counter block, boast an ingredient that could make the yellow, blue and pink ones blush:
Reb A (Rebaudiaside A), an all natural sweetening agent courtesy of the Stevia plant.
Stevia’s Reb A compounds are the sweetest part of the plant–200 times sweeter than those in table sugar.
They’re also heat-stable, so in addition to spiking your coffee and oatmeal, you can sneak the white powder into your muffins and pies and your guests will be none the wiser, but perhaps less stuffed. These sugar cube substitutes are gluten and calorie free and have 2 grams of carbs in each packet.
But wait, there’s more…
There are early reports claiming that Stevia leaf extracts may even help people suffering from high blood pressure or type 2 diabetes.
Not much of a packet pusher?
Look for this all natural sweetener in other products on the shelves, such as the new reduced calorie OJ from Tropicana, Trop 50, which is made with PureVia too.
