Remember way back, when working out was called….playing?
Well, there’s tons of big kids in our city who haven’t forgotten and who refuse to buy into grunting in stuffy weight rooms or spinning to nowhere. Let’s join them.
PUNK ROPE
Because sweating until the last drop of light goes out, is what playing is about, the Punk Rope group meets in Coney Island for an hour of jump rope, relay races and boot camp drills followed by rollerskating to 80s, Disco and New Wave classics at Dreamland Rollerink.
$12. August: 9 and 16. 3052 West 21st St on the Boardwalk.
Punk Rope 2-3 p.m. and Roller Skating 3-7 p.m.
JACK RABBIT BENEFIT RUN
Taking care of a buddy who’s gotten bullied is all part of the game. Friends and supporters of Greg Hamilton, a store manager at JackRabbit Sports who’s helped hundreds of aspiring athletes meet their fitness goals, is undergoing major treatment for his battle with testicular cancer. To raise the much-needed funds for his fight, JackRabbit organized a 5K run at Prospect Park on Tuesday night.
8.4 $20. 7PM Prospect Park at the Bartel Prichard lot (near the movie theatre). Register at Active.com or at race start.
RECESS
When we were kids, we threw away the rules and made up our own. Central Park’s field day kits complete with a basketball, 10 cones, 3 bats, a horse shoe set, playground ball, Nerf ball, football, Frisbee, 2 handballs, soccer ball, jump rope, 2 whiffle balls and hula hoops will keep you making up games all day long.
Call to reserve: 212-348-4867, 9am-7pm
FIT 2 DATE
One of the best parts of gym class was tripping your crush. While you probably won’t tease the guy you like during Erica French’s rigorous co-ed weekly Fit 2 Date relay race courses (lots of wheelbarrows and suicides), you will likely meet him.
$223. August 5, 12, 19, 26 in Battery park, 6:30pm and August 3, 10, 17, 25 in Central Park, 6:30pm.
